Overview

The Environmental Applications Learning System (T7083) from Amatrol transforms HVAC training through a scaled house model that brings residential climate control and energy efficiency to life. This add-on system for the Air Conditioning / Heat Pump Learning System (T7082) features authentic construction elements—thermal insulation, vinyl siding, asphalt shingles, and a functional window—allowing learners to explore how building envelope design, ventilation strategies, and environmental factors impact home comfort and energy performance. Using digital thermometers, temperature probes throughout the structure, and climate control components like ceiling fans, attic exhaust fans, and a humidifier, students can measure and manipulate real-world conditions to master critical concepts, including heating and cooling load calculations, insulation R-values, psychrometric analysis, and proper HVAC system sizing for residential applications.

Learning Outcomes

The T7083 delivers comprehensive training in residential HVAC design and building science through hands-on practice with a realistic home energy model. Learners will gain practical experience with load calculation methods, airflow management without opening windows, evaluating attic ventilation effectiveness, plotting dehumidification processes on psychrometric charts, and completing Manual J load estimating forms to properly size heat pump and air conditioning systems for specific residential applications. The system enables simultaneous monitoring of temperature stratification at floor, mid-room, and ceiling levels; thermal bridging at inner walls; and attic temperature using pre-mounted sensors connected to digital displays. Learning outcomes include:

  • Thermal system performance and energy efficiency analysis
  • Internal heat gains and external heat load calculations
  • Building insulation R-value effectiveness evaluation
  • Psychrometrics principles for humidity control applications
  • Humidification and dehumidification operations
  • Residential heating and cooling load calculation (Manual J)
  • Air handling system design and ductwork configuration
  • Air conditioner and heat pump equipment sizing and selection methods

Curriculum

eLearning: All Amatrol training systems have interactive, multimedia eLearning courses and modules tied to these learning concepts. This curriculum utilizes text with voiceovers, pictures, videos, stunning 3D animations, interactive quizzes and knowledge checks, pre- and post-quizzes and more. Through partnerships with key industry leaders and leading educators, Amatrol developed the right balance of knowledge to train learners to work in their chosen field.

Student Reference Guides: A sample copy of the Student Reference Guide is included with the learning system. Sourced from the curriculum, the Student Reference Guide takes the entire series’ technical content contained in the learning objectives and combines them into one perfectly bound book. You may also purchase as many additional SRGs as you need.
